Review: TOMB RAIDER

TOMB RAIDER by coltX

This is my first review but I never played Tomb Raider before since the first one released in the 90s. I didn't know what to expect before installing the game to my computer. The amazing character Lara Croft in this game is astounding. You go deep into mountains, cliffs trying to survive your way through the amazing in-depth forests with several enemies along your journey which are hunting you with rifles. At some point you have to flee to survive and suddenly you'll experience the fall off a bridge or just hanging there loose in the sky - this is a PURE survival hardcore game which brings you lots of fun! You start on a ship which suddenly destructs into the middle of nowhere and Lara hits an unknown Island, this is where the adventure begins. You walk through deep caves and the exploration of graveyard puzzles with a torch in your hand while you hear the creepy sounds from walls and rivers which brings you a creepy atmosphere at the same time. When you first play Tomb Raider, you have a bow made of wood and arrows along your journey and what isn't awesome than hitting some enemy heads with it? While you are on that you get points to upgrade your weapons and skills for a more powerful Lara Croft and switching through her sexy uniforms is just another way to make the game even more amazing. I felt so sad for Lara in the beginning of the game because she was struggling to get out of that cave and find the light, the deep surroundings of darkness and one woman filled with dirt and blood with somehow an unwashed fighting body, she would do everything to survive and that's what she did through these deep caves. Climbing up at trees was one of her specialities and just watching the enemy with her bow and arrows, it was just these moments you realized that you played as a spy.
Lara lost her bow at one point and she needed a new one, there was this guy hanging upside-down stuck in a tree but she eventually took it for self-defence and this is when we look into pure survival, how am I going to eat? Well grab that bow and shoot some animals, that is the task for survival, if you had nothing than yourself then that would be the solution. Lara had no idea where her friends were at, this was still a mystery and even if they survived from the boat. She found them eventually, Jonah, Grim, Alex, Reyes and Samantha but also Dr. Whitman.
She was trying to locate Dr. Whitman but met some strangely people on her journey there, Lara got captured and they tried to kill her however she escaped a few moments after trying to hide herself from them but the leader was extremely cautious and looking after her in all various ways and eventually found her in a shed. As he found Lara he also had a gun pointed at her and told her to come out from there, she did and he was very cruel to her, acting like he didn't have any emotions or feelings for other people. He grabbed her throat and looked her in the eyes like he was disgraced and I got the impression that he was very self-controlled in the game, he never much less cared about human-beings more than himself - what a cruel impression!
As he goes on with her standing there grabbing her throat he tries to suffocate her but she knocks the shit out of him, not like "knocking" but she stabs him and kind of grabs his gun and as she points it towards him, she show him no mercy as he did with her - looking at him and thinking "die you cruel bastard!", taking her fingers to the trigger in such a state she is in and shoots him in the head and this brings an very emotional trigger insight to the game, you did wrong and now you are going to die - don't mess with Lara Croft. She eventually escapes and climbs up a ladder to a higher point and a very narrow cliff comes along, when you reach the top Dr. Whitman enters the story in the game, he is very hurt and he can't walk as his leg is in extreme pain and Lara wants to find first aid to save him but she also wants to call for help with her com-radio that she got on her belt but the only way to do that is to reach a higher point because there is no signal.
She really needs to help Dr. Whitman otherwise his leg might get infected with bacteria - what she can do is to put him near the fire in meantime. Lara eventually tries to get to a higher point so that she can reach a beacon signal, she wanders through big cliffs and climbs those, through pipe-lines deep underground surrounded by gas and the climbing of ropes just to get to her destination, she never gives up no matter what. In this game you'll experience heights that you never have before and just looking down makes you frightened to make her fall off the rope! The beautiful scenery; vast icy mountains, cliffs, birds, sunshine and snow flings falling just makes you love this game even more! At some point you get this amazing feeling that there is no height limits in the game and that as you climb anything can happen, she can fall but still are able to grab that little piece of ledge, it was scary at first because you think that she would fall but at the end she wasn't.
She got to a very high tower which in order she needed to climb, she was thinking that if this is the last I will do, I'll do it for my friend down there that can't move and are hurt, I'll do it for the sake to get off this damn Island, I'll do it for my friends because they would do it for me and these are the things in the game where you feel the loyalty and respect characteristics, you'll experience this emotional effect and a great bond between two characters in the game - that's what makes love so beautiful in a hyped-cruel world surrounded by enemies. As we go on, we will find a moment to really get a great view of the environment and graphics in this game, an real overview of the beautiful scenery which makes tomb raider amazing.
Lara climbed so high up in the air even though I thought that these stairs was the only stairs but I was wrong, it was even higher than so - how a character can endure so much height while looking down is just amazing, it shows that Lara have many positive characteristics in this game, she is not afraid of heights. You get a real grasp of yourself, how would you feel if you were on that top nodge of that tower? In my perspective I couldn't imagine that, climbing up that high and looking down - that's INSANE. This is what makes the new Tomb Raider game amazing, all the challenges and actions you'll be apart and the story. Just moving on to the end of the game as I could go on forever, Lara's fights through many various enemies and her friend Samantha gets captured by an evil man on top of a big temple, he thinks that he can use her to awaken the queen of the temple as she is the proper "source" for the awakening and the ritual. Lara wants to sneek up there and fights her way to the altar where the ritual is happening, she wants to save Samantha from this evil and end the ritual, it's her friend and she will do anything in her power to stop the ritual. I would like to conclude this review because I don't want to reveal the end for people interesting in trying the new Tomb Raider (2013) out. It's the best game I played according to the environment, graphics and gamestyle - the story makes Lara amazing in this story-telling game.
You will find it sometimes more like a movie between different chapters and how you will really struggle with Lara Croft in this epic master piece, a new generation and environment is born and you will be amazed of the heights, the different scenes when Lara falls right into caves or cliffs or when she tries to work herself up on a mountain, the different ways she moves and acts through the game. All along dirty forests, animals and through erupting fire and shaking environments, the experience - so intense. I recommend this game to anyone because, it is a extraordinary feeling of the game. I would like to thank Crystal Dynamics for creating such a good game and no wonder why it got Game of the Year award!
